After successfully serving their apprenticeships at a young age and having worked together for a large joinery in Dublin for several years, Declan Keane & Gary Gleeson decided to leave the company they were working for and start their own Joinery & Carpentry service in Wicklow.

Both Wexford natives, Declan and Gary both knew from their experience that the lions share of the work available was in Dublin. As a compromise, they decided to base themselves in Wicklow so they would have centralised access to joinery and carpentry projects in Dublin, Wexford and Wicklow itself.

The name GBK Design came about from the first initial of each of the guys surnames: Gleeson; Barry; Keane. The word “Design” was used because they wanted something to differentiate themselves from the competition.

“Carpenters and joiners are two a penny. We wanted to add more value and we decided to do so by not only primarily offering carpentry and joinery services in Wexford and beyond, but also by offering a design service to go hand in hand.”

The team each invested some of their own seed capital cash into the business and they set about buying the tools, equipment, machinery, clothing, transport and advertising required to get going.

GBK Design opened for business in July 2015 and the business immediately started to grow at a phenomenal rate, thanks to the high quality of the work turned out from day one right though to today and beyond.
